I have 2 colleagues, DS and AH, both using Word 2003 and Outlook 2003. They say that they are using the same settings as each other. (Both are pretty IT aware, so if they say they are doing the same thing, I believe them. Neither of them works in the same office as me so I can't look over their shoulders to check.) They get different results using the Insert Hyperlink command to insert a mailto: link.
DS follows the following steps.
(1) Click on Insert Hyperlink (or Ctrl-K)
(2) Select the email address option in the Link to box.
(3) Type suitable entries in the Text to display, email address and subject line boxes
(4) Click OK
DS finds that the link generated is missing the subject line information, and if the email address is a long one it is sometimes truncated.
AH finds that neither of these problems occur for him. (I don't much use this particular feature, but when I tried it, it worked fine for me too.)
Any ideas on how to sort this out for DS would be appreciated.

Re: Inconsistency with inserting hyperlinks (Word 2003)
Just for clarification.
Is this an issue when creating hyperlinks in Word documents, or in emails?
Is either of them using Word as their email editor?

They both use Word as their email editor. (I don't.) This is primarily a problem inserting a hyperlink in a Word document, though DS reports the same problem sometimes occurs if she tries to do it in an email. (I presume that with Word as her email editor she gets the same dialog box.)

What does DS see if she presses Alt+F9 to display field codes?
I get something like this when I insert a hyperlink to an e-mail address:
