Unwanted Icon in Outlook 2003

Post by Don Wells »

I am convinced that the two icons identified below point to the same object.
  • The upper one is displayed differently; does this signify a shortcut to the Home folder?
  • Can the bottom one be removed?
    Any insight will be appreciated.

The "Home" icon on the first one signifies that this is the delivery location for incoming e-mails.

What happens if you right-click the other instance and select Close from the popup menu?
Best wishes,
Hans

That doesn't seem to be an option even after clicking "Open".

Next thing to try:
- Quit Outlook.
- Open the Mail control panel.
- Click Data Files...
- Is "W. Donald Wells" listed twice here? If so, select the one that does *not* have Default after it, and click Remove.
Best wishes,
Hans

After quitting Outlook, I used this route to find only one listing.

Prior to my initial post I noted that both icons' properties indicated exactly the same size (>500M). After archiving they were still identical (approx 45M). From this I convinced myself that both icons point to the same object.

Try the method described in Remove Ghost PSTs: Michal's Method. If that doesn't work, there's a registry hack: Delete Ghost PST's.
Best wishes,
Hans
