This Post appears on-screen with far too much space between the third and the fourth lines of text.
I suspected it was my use of the <blowup> smiley, but I am not prepared to edit that post until someone else examines its entrails.
In the first pane of smilies I see that the icon falls waaaaay below the line, so perhaps that is all that it is.
And now that I have inspected THIS post in Preview mode, I see the same effect here.
The <blowup> icon is unique in requiring so much vertical space!
What's more, as I watch it, it seems not to make use of half of the vertical space it commands.
Cheers, Chris

I've examined your entrails, Chris, and would confirm your suspicion.ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 18:03I suspected it was my use of the <blowup> smiley, but I am not prepared to edit that post until someone else examines its entrails.

You are a braver man than most, Leif, but thanks for the confirmation.

Re: Weird spacing between lines of a post
OK, I'll give you that.
But why?
Does the image (GIF?) from which it is built, somehow have oceans of extra space?
When I examine my screenshot in MSPaint, the vertical dimension is about 95 pixels.
Cheers, Chris

Most smileys are quite small - the one is 15x15 pixels, for example.
But is 60x60, as you can see when you download it, or inspect it (right-click menu in Firefox)

Thanks Hans.
So BlowUp is four times as high as Yikes, but it seems to use only about 30 pixels.
It's as if the person who designed initially had a lot more going on - 60 pixels worth of action, then trimmed the action but not the canvas.

FastStone Capture has a screen ruler. When I use this to measure the space taken up by the blowup smiley, 60x60 looks about right.
Best wishes,

Quite a smiley thing to imagine how long Chris can sit and watch the exploding smiley explode on his screen, over and over again!

almost as bad as gazing at a star and waiting for IT to down to a red? dwarf! !
Basically, every night of observation is bound to be a dis-aster!
Which, I should add, at least has the possibility of happening.
Cheers, Chris

Close, but, red dwarf stars are born that way as a function of their mass. When they run out of fuel they become white dwarfs that cool down and become black dwarfs. But it takes so long to happen there aren't any yet, the universe isn't old enough!
Interesting disaster etymology but sorry, I don't know anything about astrology!
