Show File Type in tab and window headers

Post by Sundog »

I routinely work in Word 365 on both docx and pdf documents having the same base name. How do I convince Word to display the file type portion of the file name in the interior and overall window, so I can easily tell them apart?

Click the Start button or press the Windows key.
Type folder options and press Enter.
Activate the View tab.
Clear the check box 'Hide extensions for known file types'.
Click OK.

I have installed Directory Opus, a far superior dual-pane alternative to File Explorer. But it interrupts calls to File Explorer, and doesn't have the described option--it automatically shows file type in its display. I am inquiring to see if I can pause Directory Opus without uninstalling it.

I think that your suggestion works in File Explorer. Does it also work in Word?

Word displays the extension in the title bar if Windows Explorer does.

I just learned via their ever alert Tech Support staff that Directory Opus allows temporary use of Windows Explorer in Tools > Open in Explorer, and can customize when it replaces Explorer in Settings > Preferences > (4 choices). It has even more power than I knew about.
