Win 11 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5015882)

I see in searching the WEB that some users have problems with installing Windows 11 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5015882). I am one of them. It installs fine on one of my Win 11 machines but not the other. It continually downloads to 100% and then installs to 100% but the installation doesn’t seem to take because it wants to do it all over again. I have done it 4 times but still it doesn’t install and shows it is still needed. Is there a solution to this? I can’t seem to find one on the WEB Thanks

Microsoft has acknowledged that there are problems with this update - see July 21, 2022—KB5015882 (OS Build 22000.832) Preview:
I don't know if the Known Issue Rollback mentioned there will solve your problem though.

Well I read through the above attached link and I don't seem to have any of the problems it mentions on the one machine that it installed on. The machine that it kept repeating the downloading and installing, I assume it did not install on it. I finally closed the link to the update by clicking on the x that the arrow points to in the attachment. I don't know if this means it won't try later to install it or not. Did it just close it for now or will it never be installed?

Personally, I wouldn't waste time and energy on it, and would just leave it for Microsoft to resolve. If they have acknowledged there is a problem, doubtless they will fix it in due course.

Again, I am sorry I didn't know you had made a post here. I wasn't ignoring it, I wasn't notified.

Thanks for the reply. I know I tried installing it at least 4 times. Each time it said it downloaded and installed 100%. But then it wanted to download and install it again. I finally closed it by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner and have not checked for updates since then. This machine is set to download and install updates automatically but that is supposed to happen at night, I believe. I don't know if it ever automatically installed it or not.

Well I have another windows 11 update that won't install. It is 2022-08 Cumulative Update For Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5016629) I can't find if MS has admitted problems with it or not. Does anyone have information about this update?

If you keep on having problems with updates in the future, it might help to reset the Microsoft Update components, but I'd let it be for now.

How would I reset Microsoft Update Components? Would that be using the Windows Update troubleshooter?

I have followed steps from a video I found showing how to get the KB5015882 update to install. if interested here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w83SdYefNwU I am at Step 5 which is called Reset Windows Update Components. The next step, which I'd like to avoid is to download a Windows 11 iso file and reinstall Win 11. The step I'm on requires running a bat file and it was tedious but I think I got it all copied correctly. Does anything stand out in the file below as being incorrect? I didn't change any spacing, I don't believe, but from where I got it, it all ran together and I hope I separated the lines correctly. It is supposed to be named Wufix.bat Thanks

Well I have essentially done everything except reinstall Win 11. The error code I get when trying to install this update is: Error 0x80073701 is ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING; it means there are some system files are missing, which caused the update installation failure.

SFC /SCANNOW finds nothing missing. Windows Update Troubleshooter fixes nothing. Running that bat file above didn't help. And in addition to the 6 steps in the link above I followed the steps in the link Hans gave me, which a lot of it was included in that bat file. So what I am faced with is using the Windows Media Creation Tool to create an ISO file to reinstall Win 11. It says to run it choosing to keep my files and apps. My question is, does this work as I think it is saying in that everything will be the same as far as my desktop and how I run my programs once this finishes running? I am totally unfamiliar with this process and more than a little leery of it.

Since everything else has failed, I think you should indeed reinstall Windows. If you select the option to keep your applications and documents, it should do exactly that. Still, it won't hurt to backup your data before you take this step.

Since this is a very new computer I was trying to think what may have caused this problem. I came up with this theory and would like to know if it sounds feasible or not. I have had a couple instances where I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to get rid of a couple programs. I always let it search for left over traces of the program and delete everything it finds. Do you suppose it could have deleted the system files the error code referred to as being missing? I cannot think of anything else I could have done.

Why do you run Revo Uninstaller Pro? What problem are you trying to solve? I suspect the risk may be greater than the benefits.

Because I always was under the impression that it did a much better job at uninstalling programs than Windows built in uninstaller. I really can't remember the programs I had to uninstall but I believe they may have been upgrades to existing programs and I thought it would be better to have a clean install of them.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, you agree with my theory, correct?

I certainly think that it's possible, and I also STRONGLY believe that one should only run programs that have a clearly understood benefit. There is too much complexity in a modern PC for me to want to add more that isn't needed
