Network-Network Wl Fi
Hello, I have two Laptops running Win10 Home, I can connect to my Multi Media player from either. Both laptops have the same user name & password but cannot connect using Network option. My router is set to allow connection using name & password in all 3, Private, Public cant remember name of third one. Any help you can give will be very welcome.
Regards
Percy

Have you enabled sharing in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Centre\Advanced sharing settings?
Have you shared one or more folders in Windows Explorer?

Re: Network-Network Wl Fi
Sharing has been enabled for Private, Guest or Public and All Networks on both Laptops.
I am unsure about Windows Explorer. Just checked how to share a folder, answer is NO.

If you haven't shared a folder then you won't be able to connect anything. Try sharing a folder and then see if you can connect to it.
If you can't see the other computer by browsing then try connecting from DOS
NET USE * \\computername\sharename
computername can be the fully qualified domain name, or the IP address of the remote computer
You can replace * with a specific drive letter that you want to use to access the share, for example M:

I am using OneDrive at the moment and don't have any trouble with it. It has 25GB of space.
When I got my second laptop, I was asked for my username & password to connect to my WDTV Live Multi Media Player, it connected first time. (WDTV must be ON)
Both laptops are using PIN to access them.
I'm not sure how to follow your last instructions.

Use Windows explorer on one computer to share a folder. This will create a sharename that you will need later. On the other computer open a command window and type
Code: Select all
NET USE X: \\computername\sharename

Re: Network-Network Wl Fi
Browsing for computers is an arcane and difficult area. It depends on so many obscure and unreliable things that I try to avoid it.
Try mapping a network drive with a command like I showed in my last post.

Thanks for trying to help but I have decided to abandon this. I will just continue to use OneDrive.

Re: Network-Network Wl Fi
Hi StuartR, since my last post, I removed the Shared Folder.
Then on both laptops, I did a Network Reset. Went into Network + Sharing Centre, set Private to Share X 2, set Public to Share None.
In the All Networks section, I set all 3 to ON.
Rebooted both laptops.
With both my Laptops + WDTV Media Player On, I tested my Network access and everything worked.

All I have to do now, is find a use for my new settings. I normally shut down my pc when I'm done with it.

Hello again, when I was asked to input my details for file sharing, I clicked Remember ETC. On my next attempt at entering my details it only gave the option to enter the Password. How do I get it cleared just for future reference.

Re: Network-Network Wl Fi
The way to avoid this is to ensure that you have an account on the target computer with IDENTICAL username and password to the account you are using on the local computer. This account just needs to exist, you don't need to use it as the login account on the target computer. Then you will never be prompted for username or password.
