The best waste of time so far today ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWwTtYick0o
In all my months (well OK, years) of hunting down YouTube clips of steam locomotives I have not seen a clip with such a smoke "exhaust" as this.
Ever.
I am posting it here so that Elieen's Lounge will save me having to create yet another bookmark link in my browser.

Why Do I have to make do with Crank[y]? Why don't we have a choo-choo smiley?

Who is this Elieen of whom you speak?

Those motorcyclists were taking a risk by waiting on the left hand side of the road!
Best wishes,

Sorry about that; my eyes were brimming with soot, grit, and cinders, and, well, brimstone.
Cheers, Chris

They were probably Dutch.
If you look closely you'll see that in Holland, cars drive down the centre of the road, so as long as you are biking on the Left OR the Right hand side of the road, you are pretty safe.

0m29s
0m40s ...
When you have wachted this second video, note the badly-labeled sign at the crossing.

The road is so narrow that cars will drive down the middle as long as there are no oncoming cars.
Best wishes,

Hans, you'd feel right at home anywhere on the Bonavista Peninsula!

A long time ago, before my wife and I were married, we took a ride on a steam train from York to Scarborough and back. She loved me enough to indulge me and accompany me on the trip but not enough to accompany me anywhere after we got off the train back in York until I'd been to the station toilets and washed the soot off my face.

Yes. when I was eight years old (grin) my mum, too, used to nag me about spending the whole trip with my head out of the window!stuck wrote: ↑05 Feb 2022, 12:57A long time ago, before my wife and I were married, we took a ride on a steam train from York to Scarborough and back. I do enjoy steam trains but I'm not that dedicated. The engine that was the cause of my soot incident was this one:

Ooooh! I had this one in 1959/60, Kitmaster. I painted it in maroon, too. AND the coupling rods didn't end up stuck to the wheels!
At this distance in time I can't remember her name, but she was a 4-6-2 Coronation. I remember that.
This page suggests "Duchess Of Gloucester", so perhaps John Gray can provide details.

Not surprisingly - her wheels are configured 4-6-2!

Huh?
Down our way, she was described as "a cranky old boiler".

Even though Utrecht is not that far from where I live, it's a long time ago that I visited the railway museum!
Best wishes,

With only minor edits, Lisa and Hans posts can be applied to the UK and myself...
