Re: Euro 2020
Does it follow that you are impressed by those of us that do not support England?
If so, for your vote of confidence in me

According to the latest figures, they are slightly outnumbered...

I notice from the subject heading that, unlike me, you have moved past 2003

And this side of the pond, we don't have a clue what you mean. What's a Euro?

Re: Euro 2020
2020 Euros = 1727 Pound Sterling = 2399 US Dollars at the current conversion rates.
Best wishes,

Re: Euro 2020
I'm very much opportunistic when we're not involved, to the point that I'm usually not interested at all.
(Add to that that football is a rather slow, uninteresting sport, with participants seeking Oscar nominations and fans that can't behave, it's usually not something I watch. That, and that we are not good at it (although some players move abroad). Hockey, on the other hand.)
'Twas OK that England won against Germany, in round 16, Tuesday last week; it was about time as well. Certainly not OK that we lost against Ukraine, and left, the same day. So, with the aforementioned logic, it was a pleasure to notice that England beat Ukraine in the quarter Saturday last week.
Then came their semi-final against Denmark the other day ...
Well, now that both the NL and SE are out it's quite easy to come to that conclusion, even if one is interested in the sport. With my opportunistic view of things in this case, mentioned above, interest faded after England-Denmark. However ... England-Italy in final, imagine what a pain England will be if they win that. (On the other hand one could say it was about time, but a bit late, could have been a grand finale before leaving the EU.)
That's someone else stuck in 2020; me haven't moved that far, but I'm way ahead of you in 2010 & 2013; it's quite fun in the roaring '10s; please try to avoid the year 2007 if you can.ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑09 Jul 2021, 12:31I notice from the subject heading that, unlike me, you have moved past 2003
It's UEFA Euro 2020. I'm not sure if that helps. Just did a check, you have something called Concacaf, never heard of. Perhaps you have neither.

Re: Euro 2020
Had to look up Concacaf. Had never heard of it. FIFA, on the other hand, I have heard of due to the World Cup.
I predict that if a Concacaf team ever competes in the World Cup that it will come from Mexico or one of the Central American or Caribbean countries.

Re: Euro 2020
And speaking of opportunistic, also slow, my Dad, regardless of whether he was living in England or in Western Australia, used to barrack for England if they were winning the test match (cricket) and barrack for Australia if they were winning). He was such a despised turncoat.
Hah! Now I understand the subject line. This is (perhaps) a Covid-caused delay of a tournament originally scheduled for last year. It's UEFA Euro 2020. I'm not sure if that helps.
Question: How do they manage to pin this delay on a backlog of shipping-containers in Dubai?
Cheers

Re: Euro 2020
Perhaps you should explain that Barrack is an Australianism for supporting a team, and is not a misspelled reference to a former president, nor is it a soldier's quarters.ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑10 Jul 2021, 10:40... used to barrack for England if they were winning the test match (cricket) and barrack for Australia if they were winning).
Americans would root for a team, but that has a rather off colour meaning in Australia.
