I need to create a toolbar containing a five level numbering system, ie five buttons, each setting the para to one of the levels. I did what I thought would do it (recording setting it onto the right outline numbering set) but although this worked when I did it, when I went back and clicked the button again later it just put it onto a default numbering set, not the one I wanted!
Is there a way to do this? Should I be using Outline Numbering or the ordinary list numbering to do it?
Many thanks in advance!

Re: Specific level of specific numbering
The best way would be to use 5 styles for which you have set up the appropriate outline numbering - they could be Heading 1 through 5 or a set of custom styles - and then assign the styles to toolbar buttons. Is that feasible in your situation?

Hi Hans, and I'm sure it would be feasible, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean - I noticed the outline numbering has the option to link each level to a style, are you saying that's what I should do? Or set up five styles and the whole numbering set again in each?
Sorry, I seem to be a bit thick this morning!

Shauna Kelly has a good description of how to do this: Microsoft Word Help FAQ. How to create heading numbering and outline numbering in Microsoft Word.
Best wishes,
