Good Afternoon
I would like to be able to put in CD's, New Software installs etc. and have the menu pop up as it does in XP but when I put anything in it seems to be reading it and then nothing happens.
I have gone into 'Control Panel', 'Play CD's or other Media Automatically', I have then changed everything to 'Open Folders to View Files using Windows Explorer' but nothing happens when I plug into the CD or USB drives, I have also tried 'Ask me' everytime but still nothing, I have also rebooted after each try.
Any ideas please?

Re: Autoplay in Vista (Windows Vista Business)
Perhaps the service needed for AutoPlay isn't running. Try this:
- Click Start | All Programs | Accessories.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select "Run as administrator" from the popup menu.
- At the command prompt, type
net start shellhwdetection
- Press ENTER.
- Restart your computer.

- Restart your computer.
Best wishes,

Hi Hans
Thanks for the suggestion, doing that however says that the service is already running and when I enter the net message number it too says that the service is already started?
Editted 05:57: Sorry I did not say that I had restarted the machine after doing this just in case this was the message I was supposed to get.

Re: Autoplay in Vista (Windows Vista Business)
On the positive side, you have excluded one possible cause.
On the negative side, I'm afraid I don't know how to solve the problem. I hope that someone else will post a useful suggestion.

See if any of the ideas in Troubleshoot AutoPlay problems helps. Hans has already suggested the only one that looks good to me, but there are a few links that I did not follow.

Hi Stuart and Joe
Stuart: Thanks for the advice Stuart, this resembles the list in the help files of Vista and althoutgh I had tried them all already I tried them again without any luck.
Joe: I have not seen these possible solutions before so I will try them when I get back of the road tonight at home and report back
