Re: Converter required
I generally distrust websites that require additional converters. I'm not suggesting that this particular website is malicious, but many "shady" websites try to trick you to install malware by disguising it as a converter...
Best wishes,
Hans

I agree with Hans, Dave.HansV wrote:I generally distrust websites that require additional converters. I'm not suggesting that this particular website is malicious, but many "shady" websites try to trick you to install malware by disguising it as a converter...
Have you used this site before?
What kind of file extension does the download have?
Can you contact the owners of the website to inquire about this?
....Be Careful.....

Re: Converter required
Have you got the WOT (Web of Trust) browser add on installed, if not, I suggest you install it. And, as mentioned by others, don't blindly follow instructions to download anything, the easiest way to end up with malware.
Cheers, Claude.

Re: Converter required
It's not the website that is asking Dave to install a converter, it's the utility he's using to download the video:
https://www.downloadhelper.net/
I've got that add-on in my Firefox, it is a safe add-on.
Dave, Read this, it should explain why you need the converter:

Re: Converter required
same for me Ken, many thanks for the assuring words. The video is simply a sermon on You Tube by a teacher who I have downloaded many times without a prompt for the add on so -as ever prudent after reading so many posts on the lounge- hense my question. Dave.

Re: Converter required
This time though the video must be encoded differently and so, as it is explains in the manual I linked to:Dave Davison wrote:...I have downloaded many times without a prompt for the add on...
and that's why the add-on needs the help of the converter....some video variants on some sites are not available as a single file, but instead, the video and the audio are downloaded separately then assembled locally to generate a unique file that you can use...
