A couple of other tips:
1. I never use the native link to Explorer. Instead I create a shortcut:
%windir%\explorer.exe /n, /e, c:\
and drag that to my Taskbar. This opens up a usable view in my drive of choice (in this case 'C:\'). See also
Command-Line Switches for Windows Explorer.
2. I only discovered this trick by accident the other day and am
extremely annoyed no-one bothered to tell me about it before. My folder views are generally remembered, but sometimes I may want to change it, or Windows decides what is best for me. My usual method to change the view was to click on the 'More options' button:
x.jpg
However, I found that with the cursor focus in the folder contents, I can change the view simply by holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel (much like changing the zoom level), and the view rotates through all permutations.
