That is scary. A wide door as you'll ever have for nastiness....
I'll be much more aware of what I plug into my PC.

We haven't been able to plug in USB devices at work for a long time. They are blocked by some clever software (Lumension).

I meant to reply to this before - but here at work, if it's not one thing...stuck wrote:We haven't been able to plug in USB devices at work for a long time. They are blocked by some clever software (Lumension).

Are you saying you cannot even plug in a USB keyboard or mouse? My reading of the article is that someone plugs in (say) a USB memory stick - which may well be 'blocked' by clever software - but the identity of the stick has been altered so that it appears to the operating system as (say) a keyboard. If that is accepted, then to all extents and purposes, you have just handed control over to a rogue input device...

No, Lumension knows about things like keyboards & mice so I suppose a USB stick pretending to be a keyboard might fool it. If I remember next time I'm passing through our IT area I'll ask about this.

And now they tell us a 'Factory Reset' doesn't really do a reset - BBC News - Tesco Hudl and other Android devices face data reset flaw.

So whats the bottom line here ... how/where does one store sensitive data safely for preservation!!
Do we go back (full circle) to cryptography on paper?
Imagine that!
