A puzzle to me:-
How come Firefox, a state-of-the-art browser, doesn't include "blog" in its standard dictionary?
I'm not sure of the status of "blog" in the published and regulated dictionaries, such as the Oxford English Dictionary, but it must surely be close to main-stream.

Re: Firefox - spellcheck "blog"
It may depend on the language: when I type the word "blog" it is not flagged as an error:
My version of Firefox uses US English.

Me too.HansV wrote:My version of Firefox uses US English.
But FWIW I rather think that English of the us/eng/cdn/aus/nz varieties would be now carry 'blog' as an accepted word.
Of course, now that I've added "blog" to Firefox's dictionary ...

I also discovered that FF doesn't recognize 'sulphur', but will accept 'sulfur'; in the US the latter is more common, but both are acceptable.

And I can hear the debate over "aluminium" and "aluminum looming,
but the word "blog" seems ubiquitous and also quite web-techno-savvy, an ideal article of vocabulary for Firefox users.

And the French have the words blogueur / blogeur / bloggeur and blogueuse / blogeuse / bloggeuse ...
(They seem confused about the spelling, and no doubt L'Académie Française aurait quelque chose dire au sujet de ce néologisme..)

That's what I thought - but Babelfish disagreed...

So our Lounge Pedant trusts Babelfish rather than his own judgement?

I just about passed my O-level French exam, and my French teacher said it was "a travesty", clearly thinking that I should have failed miserably...!
