The update from 8.0 to 8.1 went smoothly, as have the two subsequent 'check for updates' after the update. No more (important) updates are on offer at the moment.
It is also worth noting that at no point in any of this laptop configuration (first boot to 8.0, subsequent updates of 8.0, the 8.1 update and subsequent updates) have I created a Microsoft account. Also, I ensured I didn't take the default settings during the 8.1 update so I was able to adjust the Smart Search options at that point.
The laptop goes straight to the desktop on boot.
I'm getting there. Time now I think to copy data over to it.

Re: I've got 8.1
If by that you mean 'Update 1' to the 8.1 Update then it appear that when I selected the 8.1 Update from the Windows Store, it came with Update 1. Either that or one of the subsequent two check for updates installed it as there are no more updates on offer to me at the moment.John Gray wrote:Now for 8.1.1!

This will continue to function in this manner as long as you do NOT add a password or another account. The laptop goes straight to the desktop on boot.

Hey Ken,
You have two threads running.
1.Do I want 8.1?
2.I've got 8.1
I'm confused again.

Or, should I get Windows 8, at all? ( I prefer this one )Rudi wrote:Why not start a third called: Shall I get 8.2?viking33 wrote:Hey Ken,
