Here is the rest of my new avatar.

Anyone who has ever lived around a dachshund should appreciate it.

My brother has two dachshunds. They are adorable and the picture above typifies that famous dachshund stare...
I love it!

As youngsters, dachshunds love to run wide open and have no care or concern for anything but the joy of running. Our Lucy was one such. She could outrun greyhounds over a short stretch.

The look in the eye of your pot hole sufferer says that she is zoned out and on the fly!

I think I've said it here before. We have lived with dachshunds for more than 50 years. There have been 6 different ones including our current best buddy, Molly! As a kid, I had several other breeds of dogs - spitz, beagle, shepherd, and feis - but I have never known another breed with the intellect and personality of dachshunds. They think they are human.

Anne, we have had dachshunds who got into the suitcases when we packed to go on a trip. They knew what the suitcases meant and were determined not to be parted from us.

They are family dogs for sure. The whole family can sit on the sofa and the dog will lay across all laps and expect to be stroked by each one.

How cute! Yes, our cats know when the suitcases come out... it means we're traveling, so they end up being boarded at the vet's. So of course, they hide in the suitcases.
And maybe since dachshunds love to run so much--it's almost like they're miniature greyhounds! or tiny fighter pilots! They are adorable little dogs, looks like (I've never owned one, but know several people who do, and they absolutely adore them).

I lived with a family in the US who had a dachshund German shepherd cross. It had dachshund short legs but the German shepherd body- a most unfortunate mix. It would leave footprints and stomach drag prints in the snow.

Why did the cowboy get a dachshund?
Spoiler
Because he wanted to get a long little doggie
 :innocent:
Spoiler
Just in case it's obscure nowadays, in cowboy terms, "git-along-little-dawgie" meant "move on, little heifer" when herding cows on the range

Because being a pedant is popular here, I must point out that the correct term used by cowboys was "dogie" (pronounced 'dough gee' with the gee being pronounced like the term for some butter). A dogie is a motherless calf and might be either a heifer or a bull calf.

If a dogie is a motherless calf, then what do you call a motherless dogie?
