Searching Forum for Specific Words

Post by grovelli »

How do you look for the sentence, "You can't carry out this action at the present time" in the Access/SQL forum?

It's better to search for some keywords. A search for action present turns up two threads that contain these words, but not the full sentence. So the sentence that you mention doesn't occur in the Access forum.

What action were you trying to perform when the error occurred?
Best wishes,
Hans

I've tried variations of those key words and I too do not get hits for that entire phrase.

In Advanced Search, you can search in a specific forum using key words as the prompt just to the left instructs.
You can also use double quotes for searching exact phrases. Though the search yields no results, have a look at the example in the image to see how you can run searches for various criteria.

You can also review this in-depth post to learn more about fine-tuning searches in the lounge.

Hi Hans, Rudi
DoCmd.RunSQL "SELECT qryNEw.* INTO tempYearlyProd FROM qryNEw"
was in a function that runs when you open a report but to make it work I had to put it in the Click event of the button that opens the report

Hi Rudi, I thought your last post actually said, "I'm  ??" but in any case, since you've asked, I'm compelled to explain

It did, but later I thought I'd try to explain my confusion better.

If I go to the Quick Search Box for the Access/SQL forum and type ".Formula = .Formula" nothing comes up but the sentence is definitely there

The search feature of phpBB3 is not perfect. But that looks like Excel rather than Access...

Sometimes there's another solution.

While Google can search a specific site, it can't access specific forums on a single site (although it is possible to incorporate a forum name into a search).

To search a site, try site:www.eileenslounge.com search criteria

So I could search for the sentence
site:www.eileenslounge.com "You can't carry out this action at the present time"
which brings up this thread

or even something like
site:www.eileenslounge.com "Lounge Matters" "You can't carry out this action at the present time"

Using all the search options on Google can, of course, refine or expand the results.

While it is somewhat clunkier than the inbuilt search, it can sometimes help you to do things that you can't do with the board search.
