Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
I keep getting a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message at start up. The message is
Runtime error!
Program: C...
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I have Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007
I first ran a complete Norton scan, no concerns
I ran the System File Checker (SFC)
The scan results were “Windows Resource did not find any integrity violations”.
Any suggestions what I might do

Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
Do you get this when you start your computer?
If so, which programs do you start automatically?
If you don't know, try the free utility WhatInStartup. It will show you which programs and processes are started automatically.

Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
The Visual C++ Runtime Library is a code library used by programs written in C++ (just like macros in Excel use Visual Basic for Applications).
So you'd have to find out which program or process causes the error...

Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
You could do the following:
- Use WhatInStartup to disable an item (first button on the toolbar; do NOT delete the item!)
- Reboot.
If the problem occurs, the disabled item was not the culprit; enable it again and try with the next one.
If the problem does not occur, you have found the culprit - you may be able to uninstall and reinstall it.

I followed your directions and the error message stopped appearing when “search settings” were disabled. I confirmed by enabling and disabling a couple times.HansV wrote:You could do the following:

SearchSettings appears to be some kind of adware/malware. I'd leave it disabled.ABabeNChrist wrote:I followed your directions and the error message stopped appearing when “search settings” were disabled. I confirmed by enabling and disabling a couple times.

Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
If it's adware/malware have you tried running a Malwarebytes Antimalware scan to clean it out?

Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error Message
Everything seems to be operating smoothly here today, nothing unusual. I also ran a Malwarebytes Antimalware scan as Ken has suggested and results were nothing was found.
Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions.
