Just changed from Outlook 2003 to 2007 and 'Purge Deleted Messages' button now won't work.
I have set 'changing folders' to purge the deleted messages, so I can work around this, but sure would like the button to work too.

Does Purge IMAP items marked for deletion help?
Best wishes,

I have read that article - that's how I found out how to get Outlook to purge deleted messages when changing folders.
But it doesn't get the 'Purge' button working. Used to work just fine in Outlook 2003.
Thanks anyway.

Are you using IMAP for a Gmail account? I found some reports of this combination acting weirdly. You might find help on the Gmail support forums.
I'm not using IMAP myself currently, so I can't test how it works in Outlook 2010.

Re: Purge deleted messages button won't work - Outlook 2007
I found a workaround.
Using 'Customize', on the Menu, I removed the 'Purge Deleted Messages' command that didn't work and then added the command 'Purge Marked Items In All Accounts'.
This works just fine, but takes up a whole lot of Menu space. Is there any way of changing the Menu item text?

Geez, it's several years since I used the menu-toolbar interface. My memory of how customizing worked is fading rapidly. (Perhaps it's just old age... )
If you select Tools | Customize..., then right-click the toolbar button or menu item, is there an option to edit its caption?

Got it.
Right click anywhere on the Menu.
Select 'Customize'.
Right click on the Menu item to be renamed.
Next to 'Name', alter name as required.
All done - name changed as required.
There is another area in the 'Customize' dialog where this identical 'Name' option appears. I had tried this previously, but changing the name there doesn't stick.
