For the last several days, the Google News site http://news.google.com is insisting that I don't have cookies enabled.
I haven't made any changes to the Firefox privacy settings and google.com shows in the lists of cookies set on my machine.
Also, google is not shown in the cookies "exceptions" list.
I am wondering if google is trying to prove how valuable cookies are as they proceed to expand their use of personal data.
Is anyone else experiencing cookie problems with google news or have a remedy?

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
I don't get such warnings when I visit http://news.google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; using Firefox 10. I'm not logged in to my Google account and I don't try to personalize the Google News page.
Best wishes,
Hans

HansV,
I don't get the cookies warning unless i try to switch between "modern" and "classic" settings.
Also, the personal settings do not stick - update the page and personal settings are gone.
I just installed Firefox 10 today. I had the problem with version 9 and it continues with 10.
Thanks,
Jim Cone

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
Interesting - I get the dropdown to select a style (Modern, Headlines, Compact, Classic) in Internet Explorer 9 for some languages, but in Firefox 10.
This may have to do with being logged in to my Google account in Internet Explorer.

For what it's worth...
I just fired up Internet Explorer 8 and the same problem with google news cookies occurs; even with IE set to accept all cookies.
Looks like a google news issue.

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
I found a suggestion to delete all Google-related cookies, then try again.
Best wishes,
Hans

HansV,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I deleted all cookies, removed all cookie restrictions, allowed third party cookies and restarted Firefox.
No joy.

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
This won't help, Jim, but only point to the possibility that it's something else on your machine.
I'm still running Fx 9 and I DO stay logged in on Google all the time.
I've not had any cookies alerts and I use Google news every day. I also just switched from modern to classic and back again without any problems. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
Can't be anything I've done, has to be Google.
Yesterday, I uninstalled Firefox 10 again, including all settings.
Installed Firefox 10 again and Google News still asks for cookies to be enabled.
The Google News "Learn More" link is also broken.
The Reuters news page isn't bad, I am going to try that for awhile.
Thanks Al and Hans

Sounds like a Google versus any other browser war. Like they apparently have done with Google Toolbar not being "compatible" with Fx. 10.

One more fairly easy test, Jim...Jim Cone wrote:Can't be anything I've done, has to be Google.
Try creating a new Firefox profile and see if the problem persists. Given mine and Hans' esperience, I'm having a time thinking it's a Google problem.

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
Al,
When I removed Firefox, I had it also remove the existing settings.
(a removal option)
The current profile folder files are all dated 02/02/2012.
After testing the Google news page, I had to go thru About:Config and add my custom settings.
Note: nothing is ever my fault.

Re: Firefox 9/10 and Google News Page
Update...
After initially telling me to enable my cookies this morning, Google News seems to be fully functioning again.
It also prompted me with a reference to their new privacy policy... http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/
Generally "new" from Microsoft means "beware" and I expect Google's definition in this case will be the same.

It is worth taking the time to read about the changes. They do indicate clearly which features you can opt out of, if you want to.
Best wishes,
Hans
