Snow is falling heavily in the Mid-Atlantic states--24 in./61 cm predicted in my part of Maryland. Over the years, I've moved a lot of snow, but the technique in this video has given me another tactic to use:

Triple-lickit-all, if I'm not mistaken led by the Grey cat (No relation to a badger we may know)

Here in the "Florida of the North". we were inundated with about 14 snowflakes total over a 6 hour period. Town was thinking of declaring a state of emergency but cooler heads prevailed.Bigaldoc wrote:So Dennis, how's the snow pileup? Actually, 30 in. in our backyard. Most everything shut down for 2 days. According to the media in Washington, DC, they/we had a major "blizzard." It was NOT a blizzard, though, having experienced real blizzards when I lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin--a blizzard requires 35 mph winds for more than 3 hours and visibility of no more than 1/4 mile.Bigaldoc wrote:So Dennis, how's the snow pileup? The Wash. DC TV announcers evidently had a long day:
--"We've had reports of 30 feet of snow."
--As we've told you ed [sic] nauseum . . . ."
--"We've had reports of whitehouse conditions."
--For those who have lost power and need help, call . . . ."

"Talking Heads" eh?DenGar wrote:... According to the media in Washington, DC, they/we had a major "blizzard." ...
Yeah, I can relate. When Billie and I lived in Colorado they used to call 'em "ground blizzards" cuz the snow was blown horizontally by the high winds and it really WAS unsafe to drive! I was on my way to work (trying anyway) one day and had to pull off to the side of the road, which I couldn't see, and pray that someone didn't rear end me!
Thirty inches is a LOT of snow and I know I couldn't deal with that anymore and would have to call for outside help. Good fortune to you and your family, Dennis...

In North Dakota, the wind would blow so long and hard that we would have "snirt"--a combination of snow and dirt accumulating on surfaces, including inside window sills. Ah, those "pioneer" days.

Re: Snow cleaning technique
A couple of my siblings live in Hagerstown and I've been thru Cumberland quite a few times when we take I-68 route as an alternative route to the turnpike. Beautiful country you live in. I've eaten at the Penn Alps restaurant not too far from Cumberland and walked around the small group of shops there. My BIL hails from Montana and finds MD snows "nothing" until this storm haha!! They got 27 inches and are still digging out. We have those "snirt" days here too due to the number of farm fields all around us. Double hung windows cure that~!~DenGar wrote:
