The bird has flown.
Although a few years ago I did contemplate trapping pigeons on the balcony (different building) as a source (sauce?) of protein.
The pigeons were an assertive lot, and two pairs nested at either end of the balcony and produced two chicks each before I was aware of it.
Even I, cold-hearted unfeeling brute that I am, couldn't bring myself to do-in the parents while they had dependents.
I am, after all, an orphan myself.
And the day the babies flew the coop, so did the parents.
Dastardly time-scheming parents!

Would that we could have all "flown the coop" when our offspring left the "first" time ROFL. I STILL wish to fly the coop. I've eaten squab and I can't say that I found it morsel or less filling. Try to figure out a way to entice pheasants, and you'll have a tasty treat.
