When ever I try to open a Word file from most sites I get the pane asking if I want to save the file. All I want to do is OPEN the file.
How to I bypass this pain?
I am using Office 2007 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Re: Bypass saving Word file
This isn't normal, do you have an add-in that could be causing this?

Re: Bypass saving Word file
This is an interesting thread. Every file that I download from the lounge has to be saved to disk prior to opening, which I have always assumed to be normal behaviour.
No add-ins, security options as shown by Leif.

Same goes for me in IE8. Firefox 3.6.12 does give me a choice between Open With and Save File.VegasNath wrote:This is an interesting thread. Every file that I download from the lounge has to be saved to disk prior to opening, which I have always assumed to be normal behaviour.

Re: Bypass saving Word file
I think I may have misunderstood. I thought that the original post was asking about opening a Word document from a mapped drive. If you are talking about opening a word document using http: protocol to download it from a web site then I get the same behaviour as everyone else here.

My error, yes this is from the internet, as where I get this message. It is a real pain in the rear end.StuartR wrote:I think I may have misunderstood. This is a Vista or XP thing that may apply to Win7 URL Save/Open Reset. Scroll down to other postings they too have some success.

Re: Bypass saving Word file
There are a lot of forums out there reporting this same problem - I personally didn't appreciate there was a problem as I use Firefox.
The majority, however, such as this one, seem to relate to Vista.
