Yes, these days the cost of just about everything raises an eyebrow. However, Yorkshire folk are considered by most other parts of the UK to be rather reluctant to part with their money and thus are more likely to express disbelief at the cost of an item, even if the item is not expensive. In this case though such a cry of horror at the price seems justified.
I have a memory of you telling me that before, and me telling you that these days Cowlam is little more than a couple of houses. It's certainly not worth a trip over the pond to visit it.
