I can open 2 different workbooks at the same time, but I am unable to navigate back and forth to either workbook. It seems the second workbook opens directly over the first opened workbook and not allowing me to switch back in forth. I am using excel 2007.
Noted; both workbooks use Custom UI Editor toolbar

Activate the View tab of the ribbon.
In the Windows group, click Arrange All.
Select Vertical, then click OK.

With the custom toolbar it does not display any options, but if I disable the custom toolbar then the shortcut option appears, but then does not allow me to switch back and forth from workbooks or view side by side view.
For some reason I thought when both workbooks where open at the same time, I could then hover my mouse over the excel on taskbar and select which workbook to view.
What I am trying the achieve is copy and pasting various verbiage and icons.

Are you sure that you pen both workbooks in the same instance of Excel?

Even with both workbooks penned that option only show the visible workbook, the other workbook is behind the first one and will not separate.
I also tried adding this code to the UI editor toolbar with no success. I see the options as you mentioned but nothing happens when selected. I remove all protection (workbook and sheet)

Re: How to open 2 workbooks side by side in excel 2007
I was able to get both workbooks to separate when I minimized one of the workbooks after using your suggestions (earlier in this thread)
Even though I was able to navigate back and forth between workbooks. I somehow remember it being easier as I mentioned earlier.Activate the View tab of the ribbon.
In the Windows group, click Arrange All.
Select Vertical, then click OK
UPDATE; Now upon further review I just noticed that if one or both workbooks have workbook protection then I can only view 1 workbook, the one that was last opened, but if both workbooks have no workbook protection, then I can switch back and forth easily. Sample photo belowwhen both workbooks where open at the same time, I could then hover my mouse over the excel on taskbar and select which workbook to view.

Yes, Ctrl+F6 works great. I can now navigate to each workbook even when protected and even restore down or maximized.
