Hmmm... I don't understand that. Anyone else?
(P.S. I've never seen any such message; I was on 1903 until November last year, now on 1909)

Are you on the latest 1903 build - 18362.752?
What happens if you click "Turn it off"?

2) The notification goes away but comes back again another day
Thanks, that setting was 'On' when I looked just now but I'm sure it was 'off' the last time I looked. I've (re)set it to off, I'll see what happens now.DaveA wrote:...within the notification area...
One other comment. Notice how the message I kep getting says, 'via Cortana'. That seems odd because I nail the lid on Coratana's box using O&O Shutup10 every time an update arrives.

We have turned off Cortana using the options within Cortana and it has never gotten turned back on by any update.

If you ask me, Windows 10 is full of so many settings it's almost impossible to remember. But I believe you; I think it’s easier to remember those left being on.stuck wrote:Thanks, that setting was 'On' when I looked just now but I'm sure it was 'off' the last time I looked. Post install routine:
Off, off, off, off, and you are off as well, definitely off, you too, off, off again etc.

Hello,
This is another precaution sometimes taken , which I think is not done by O&O Shutup10, which pulls back coronta a bit… So it is extra to the O&O Shutup10 stuff
_ Microsoft Symbol+r to get the cmd window
_ Type gpedit.msc and OK https://imgur.com/zEQ7R7j" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://imgur.com/CChhkTn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_ Navigate to somewhere like All Settings….. https://imgur.com/xynF2pv" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
_ Now you need to find the Coronta entry like “Allow Coronta” and disable it
https://imgur.com/9jPANIK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , https://imgur.com/QOD0tIv" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , https://imgur.com/lsbkAD9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Note:
There are a few of them Coronta entries, and they chop and change the words a bit in the listings. You need to find the one that has a description something like… This policy setting indicates whether Cortana is allowed on the device.
If you enable or do not configure this setting, Cortana is allowed on the device. If you deactivate the setting, Cortana is switched off.
When Cortana is turned off, users can still use the search feature to find information on the device .
I done this on my German 1909 ( Windows 10 Pro 64 (build 18363.719) )
I got the info from the ref below which was apparently done on a English 1903. He had already done the O&O Shutup10 stuff, so the thing I am describing is extra to that , as far as I can tell…

I have experienced the odd update slipping through, or folder contents being changed, when it shouldn’t , often on a computer Start or Restart. Also some things are also programmed to be done some time after the main update. I have experienced that. That can also catch you out.
It seems that you need to keep your eyes open and recheck any settings you have made, at intervals sooner than expected major updates.

This info is just for in case Coranta might be spreading the problem….stuck wrote:Notice how the message I kep getting says, 'via Cortana'. That seems odd because I nail the lid on Coratana's box using O&O Shutup10 every time an update arrives....

… Updates and setting changes are increasingly forced upon you regardless of any thing you do, so you may have occasionally been hit without you noticing. If you have all things possible set to prevent updates occurring at specific times it is no guarantee that you will not get hit, ( failing pulling the socket ). As time goes on , I expect you will need to do things like O&O shut up more often.stuck wrote:..that setting was 'On' when I looked just now but I'm sure it was 'off' the last time I looked. feels a bit like that.HansV wrote:The Coronta Virus?
Meanwhile, it was Dave's post , making me look again at the settings for Notifications and Actions, that appears to have fixed the problem. Since fine tuning those settings, I'm getting useful, not pointless, messages.
