We have upgraded to Office 2013.
Is there a way to close a Word document without closing Word.
In forums Ive seen posted answers to manually add the Close command to the Quick Access Toolbar. Are there alternatives.
Is this applicable across all the applications Word, excel , powerpoint etc
Is this related to SDI / MDI in 2013.
TIA

Re: Word 2103 close a Word doc withough closing Word
in Word XP the document had a X on the top right hand corner. Click X would close the doc & leave the application open.
In Word 2007, in Word Options, Advanced, in the Display area uncheck the tickbox 'Show all windows in the Taskbar', the result on the document would display X on the top right hand corner. Click X would close the doc & leave the application open.
Im wondering if a setting exists in 2013.
Thanks

Also, the default keyboard shortcut for the Close command is Ctrl+W. Yes, this works in all the Office programs except Outlook.
The "Show all windows in the Taskbar" option does not exist in Word 2013 or 2016. There is no ability to switch from SDI to MDI in the later versions. The only X button in any document is the one that closes that document's whole window, and clicking the X in the last open document closes the program. However, Ctrl+W or File/Close still leaves the program open.

In addition to the above advice, you can also add the close button to the QAT; which will close the document and window for each open document, but when its the last window, it will close the document leaving a blank Word window available.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

File > Close (Since Word 97 except in Word 2007).
I have it on my QAT but prefer the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W.
