What happens if you click Options... in the lower right corner of the Style Pane and select a different option?

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
I don't see the options. Besides, my Style Pane resides in the left side of the screen, just like it does with Word 2003 or 2007.HansV wrote:What happens if you click Options... in the lower right corner of the Style Pane and select a different option?

I did find the option in the Styles pop-up box (Shift+ctrl+S), but nothing changes.HansV wrote:What happens if you click Options... in the lower right corner of the Style Pane and select a different option?

Do you mean the Style Area on the left? (It's not the Styles Pane)

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
I'm beginning to think that your installation of Word 2013 is corrupt:
- The Style Area pane is blank.
- The Keyboard Shortcut Organizer doesn't work.
- It crashes when opening Word 2003/2007 documents from hard disk.
Have you tried repairing Office from the Programs and Features control panel?

1. I've tried uninstall-reinstall many times. But it doesn't work.HansV wrote:I'm beginning to think that your installation of Word 2013 is corrupt:

2. Actually I'm using Word 2013 Asian version + English pack. Without the English pack, the style area is fine. After installing the English pack and turning on the English menu, the style area goes blank.
3. this problem seems to be specific to my desktop. I set up the same combination on my laptop - Windows 7, Word 2013 Asian and English pack- and everything is fine. The style area works fine even after I turn on the English menu.
Any idea what's causing this?

I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest idea what could cause this, nor how to solve it.

I'm thinking of trying Office 365 if I can have better luck there.HansV wrote:I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest idea what could cause this, nor how to solve it.
Is Office 365's interface pretty much the same as Office 2013? The multi language pack also applicable to Office 365?

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
Office 365 is merely the subscription version of Microsoft Office. The version of Word in Office 365 is Word 2013, the version of Excel in Office 365 is Excel 2013, etc.

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
Oh.. I thought Office 365 installs only the bare minimum and downloads the components on demand through the internet. Is there a chance that the Language Pack for Office 2013 will work on Office 365 as well then? I'd like to know as much about Office 365 as possible before making a purchase.HansV wrote:Office 365 is merely the subscription version of Microsoft Office. Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
According to Office Language Packs 2013 FAQ:
I bought an Office 365 subscription, do I need a Language Pack?
No. If you purchased an Office 365 subscription you can use it to install Office in different languages instead of buying a Language Pack.

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
I think the MS representative who wrote the FAQ doesn't fully understand the purpose of a Language Pack. The purpose is not simply to read the menus and help files in another language. Some Asian languages have intricate grammatical rules that make English-based search & replace impracticable. The Asian Office does come with this special grammatical feature. By combining an Asian office + English language pack, I can get the best of both worlds: Asian grammar-compliant Word and the English interface that I'm more familiar with. The English Office alone doesn't give me the former, and the Asian Office alone doesn't give me the latter.HansV wrote:According to Office Language Packs 2013 FAQ:I bought an Office 365 subscription, do I need a Language Pack?

Ok, apparently you can still install the proofing tools for East Asian languages in Office 365 - see Plan for multilanguage deployment of Click-to-Run-based Office installations.
There are some reports that it won't work "out of the box" - see Office 365, Proofing Tools and OCR in OneNote for a workaround.

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
I'm having this problem again, but this time with a different twist:
Word 2013 can display styles in the Style Area with roman names, but not those with non-latin names. Is there any reason why this should be so?
Is there a separate style for the style names used in the Style Area? (There used to be a separate style for the headings in the Document Map in Word 2003. I sometimes had to tinker with the Document Map style, whey they weren't displayed properly.)

Re: [Word 2013] No styles showing in the Style Pane
As far as I can tell, you cannot change the font used in the Style Area. I guess the workaround is to use only Latin characters in style names.
