Freezing berries
http://www.chrisgreaves.com/Cooking/FreezingBerries/FreezingBerries.htmI strolled through the local Metro (Old Dominion) Supermarket yesterday evening around 6 p.m. and what did I see but plastic punnets of berries on sale, three (punnets) for five dollars. A punnet of strawberries is 454 grams, one pound imperial. Hence a pound-ette of berries, get it?
I'm no fool!
I grabbed three punnets of strawberries, paid five dollars, raced home and froze them and went to bed quite dis-satisfied, kicking myself, in fact.
Why oh why oh why didn't I hand over every dollar in my pocket and lug home several pounds of them?
They freeze well, one of my friends tells me. etc. etc. etc. (More images on the photo essay page)

Funny looking strawberries, Chris!

Well, that's the last straw!PaulB wrote:Funny looking strawberries, Chris!
That photo was only a sampler.
The FIRST batch of strawberries can be seen bagged in the SECOND photo date-stamped 11:22;
FWIW the FIRSTphoto date-stamped 11:22 shows traces of strawberries on the wax paper.
Oh.
Never mind.
Go watch "Unfinished Song", and watch it by yourself in a movie theatre; it'll take your mind off berries.

I prefer them fresh, right from the store shelves (sick grin!)
(later) I notice they have a WA page.
Next time you're chatting, ask them if they ship to Toronto a.k.a. "The Frozen North"
Thx
(even later) Please also ask if there is any danger of the strawberries being hijacked en root (sic))

Re: Freezing berries
No wonder, if you all are eating frozen berries. BTW, last time I checked Toronto was on the same latitude as the French Riviera, Monaco etc.ChrisGreaves wrote: Next time you're chatting, ask them if they ship to Toronto a.k.a. "The Frozen North"
(BTW 2, there was a food poison alert on imported frozen berries this summer; so, I guess it's either a. DIY, as above, or b. buy products from your own country; unless you live in the country exporting the frozen berries, that is ...)

Quite so; I was having this conversation yesterday morning with Shane (he of the French Fries enquiry).Argus wrote:BTW, last time I checked Toronto was on the same latitude as the French Riviera, Monaco etc.
San Diego CA is pretty well congruent in all respects, including latitude, with Perth WA, but I think Perth has higher humidity in summer time.
I could be wrong.
My trips to San Diego have been two-week affairs at various times during the year.
I think I'd need to spend a few years there to make a better comparison.
Anyone wishing to fund my trip should send money via a Nigerian bank account I plan to open Real Soon Now ...

Very amusing.
Just one thing - Who was the superhero in the story? Usually these picture stories have superhero's?

Looks like you need a new tool to cope with your strawberries Chris. I can highly recommend this strawberry knife to help making your task a bit easier. BTW, the blade is incredibly sharp !
