About a month ago I decided to master Advanced Query Syntax (AQS).
I had trouble getting it to work.
I've had little success with Win7 Explorer search since it was thrust upon me ten months ago.
Today I found this page and through it Agent Ransack.
On this page I have summarized my efforts to implement a number of fixes, none of which worked.
Agent Ransack installed and worked flawlessly first time!
I am so relieved that I can once again find files, I had to say something ...

Several Loungers have expressed their satisfaction with the Everything Search Engine. Both Agent Ransack and Everything look like good alternatives to the native Windows Search.
Best wishes,
Hans

Quite so; I read those threads a month(?) ago and d/l Everything, used it once, then decided to make AQS work.
To no avail.
I was moved to Agent Ransack by the exo-thread I quoted and by a comment in Ian Wilson's thread.
P.S. I must say i liked the text "Mythicsoft Labs: These applications are still in development and come with no warranty. They are poorly documented (if at all) and probably have some bugs in them but... they're pretty cool and best of all they're free: ".
Pretty neat and straightforward statement, and does away with the need for a mindless click on "I agree".
IMHO.

I note in today's Windows Club post that there is a shortcut key for Win8ChrisGreaves wrote:... Advanced Query Syntax (AQS) ... I had trouble getting it to work.
Win+F : Opens File Search App
Which sounds as if there might be a new chance that Windows search will work for everyone!

I was hoping that maybe MSoft had rewritten it as a new ap.
Windows Search (and AQS) fails to work on my Win7 machine and on some other Win7 machines.

Re: Advanced Query Syntax (AQS) and Agent Ransack
Thank you for Agent Ransack - really fast, and just what I have been looking for (Quirky icon though?!)
I was using FreeCommander, which I still would suggest as a Windows Explorer alternative. But I was mainly using it as a search tool, so it's good to have a dedicated (fast) tool for searching.
Andy.
