(3) That the link "Light Relief" works.
Cheers
Chris
In the older software it would not show me the four sub-forums; in this incarnation it does show me the four sub-forums.Cheers

Umm, I'm sure an Admin will correct me if I'm wrong but that option existed before the upgrade, at least it did if you were using the subsilver2 theme.ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑10 Jun 2020, 15:29...In the older software it would not show me the four sub-forums; in this incarnation it does show me the four sub-forums...

Hi Ken. I know the option was there, but clicking on "Light relief" didn't work for me. I think it took me up one level to "Board Index".
It may have been the scheme I was using, but the link did not work on either of my laptops.
I didn't complain (for once!) because it was just as easy to click on a "Scuttlebut" forum link in New Posts".
Cheers

Re: I am impressed ...
Actually I think this version is more sophisticated the old version. In the old version you just got a list of all threads in the subsections. Now, above the list of all threads, you get a header block that lists the individual subsections.

I agree with Ken that the "breadcrumb" links worked in the older version too.

Re: I am impressed ...
OK then, while I'm on a roll (and being wrong!) how about this:-
I seem to recall that the old software notifications included the text content of the post that triggered the email alert.
I think this because back in the days (last April) when I checked email on my phone, I could read the notification and see the first (of possibly several) responses to my post or someone else's post.
In my case this was especially helpful because I would see the first response to my new thread, and this was very helpful when I posted a question that generated a short response (Me: "Can I do this ..."; Hans: No you can not!" ) This is what I see in Thunderbird when I check mail.
And while I am at it, clicking on that first link seems NOT to take me to "[If you want to view] the newest post made since your last visit, click the following link:", but to the top of the page.
Of course this may be a quirk of my usual quirky setup here at The Landfall Garden House.
Thanks
Chris

Re: I am impressed ...
Hi Chris, this is indeed a change. phpBB3.3 doesn't include the text of posts in notifications.
A problem with including the text was that users would reply to the email instead of visiting the forum and replying there. The email reply would end up in the admins' inbox...

Thanks, Hans, for the confirmation. I sometimes think my memory is, er, er, going
Two more mysteries solvedA problem with including the text was that users would reply to the email instead of visiting the forum and replying there. The email reply would end up in the admins' inbox...
(1) Why so few people were responding to my replies and
(2) How you get to respond to so many posts
