I've made a blog page about the ship my Dad served aboard during the Invasion of North Africa in 1942... and today I added a crew roster (Enlisted Navy personnel only--it doesn't include Navy officers or Coast Guard personnel who were also assigned to the ship). Thought you might enjoy reading about a little bit of history!

Good story and great way to memorialize your parents and their generation.mishmish3000 wrote:I've made a blog page about the ship my Dad served aboard during the Invasion of North Africa in 1942... and today I added a crew roster (Enlisted Navy personnel only--it doesn't include Navy officers or Coast Guard personnel who were also assigned to the ship). Re: USS Thomas Stone
Rus, thanks! I felt bad not being able to decipher where Dad's typed list has faded. I'll update it with the info you think is more correct. That really helps. I should have retyped it years ago when Dad gave it to me. He gave me the list the same time he gave me a book of photographs about Navy service that was only given to Navy veterans of the war. Some of the photos are very graphic; he warned me about them but said I needed to see it all to try and understand it.
Dad (and I) loved the military but he taught me to be very realistic about it too, one of the best things he ever taught me. He was an amazing guy. I miss him.

Glad you enjoyed the photos! I love looking at them too! I was just looking for Dad's Navy papers but I think they're in a box that's too heavy for me to lift. So Dr. Susie will have to get it down for me. I know he served on a wooden mine sweeper too but can't remember its designation. it's in his papers.
