Copying songs from a cd to a hard drive
Can Windows Media Player be used to copy songs from a cd to my hard drive?

Hi JMT, yes, it can but it's restricted to .wma format. This does it better. http://www.fairstars.com/cdripper/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Windows 11 Home 22H2

George.

Yes, it's called ripping a CD. You can choose the output format (.wma, .wav or .mp3) and the audio quality.
See for example Rip (copy) songs from CDs to your computer.

No it isn't:Roderunner wrote:Hi JMT, yes, it can but it's restricted to .wma format.
By default, the Player uses the Windows Media Audio format, (...) You can also choose one of the following formats:
• Windows Media Audio Pro, which is designed to be used in low storage capacity portable devices, such as mobile phones, where the increased efficiencies of the format improve the audio quality at lower bit rates. Note that not all portable devices support this format.
• Windows Media Audio (Variable Bit Rate), which can reduce the file size, but may also take longer to rip.
• Windows Media Audio Lossless, which provides the best audio quality but increases the file size.
• MP3 and WAV (Lossless), which provide added flexibility.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thank you. For some reason I did not get a notification of these posts, which is unusual.
I am using Windows Media Player 12. What was throwing me off was the new format. There is no longer a Rip tab. Now, it is hidden under the Display additional options arrow next to Stream.

Oops sorry yes that's the url, great freebie and dead easy to use as is iWisoftvideoconverter http://download.cnet.com/iWisoft-Video- ... -10974272. which will extract the sound track from a video and convert it into mp3. It is also handy if one wants to merge multiple mp3 tracks into one whole. Cheers Dave.
