I finally decided to bite the bullet...
We have a few PCs at home and I finally decided it was time to upgrade one of them to Windows 10, to see if I can live with it.
I unhid KB3035583 and installed it, but when I tried to upgrade it told me that my NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT graphics card isn't supported, so I've had to order a new graphics card.
I'm now waiting for the card to be delivered before I continue...

Good luck! On the whole, I've been satisfied with Windows 10, although it has a few quirks (just like every OS).
Best wishes,
Hans

Not great to have it start with a nag! Argh!
However, once you are past the initial GUI changes, I cannot see you will be too disappointed. (...my opinion of course...)
BTW: Lead is not too health to eat. You may want to consider a melon, bockwurst or anything softer?

I have a friend with a fairly new Lenovo laptop which doesn't 'get on' with Windows 10, even after a couple of reinstalls. Something to do with no Start btton, or it not working, or something. He was nearly going to buy a new Apple Mac, but realised that this would be silly!

Why not stick with MS-DOS? Who really needs Windows anyway?

Claude prefers interacting with the mouse, or would that be the snake or the spider or the stick insect?HansV wrote:Why not stick with MS-DOS? Who really needs Windows anyway?

Re: I finally decided to bite the bullet...
I've installed the new graphics card, got the latest Windows 7 drivers working properly and it all looks good. The old card no longer shows up in device manager.
The Windows 10 upgrade app still says that I have the old card and says the last check was carried out at 01:00 this morning. There's no obvious way to get it to recheck and detect the new graphics card.
Any suggestions?

Re: I finally decided to bite the bullet...
You may have to run Disk Cleanup as Administrator to remove the files downloaded as preparation for Windows 10. They will be re-downloaded automatically. Hopefully the new graphics card will then be recognized.
Best wishes,
Hans

According to the help on the Get Windows 10 app, it rechecks once a month, and the last check was in the early hours of this morning!
I tried deinstalling and reinstalling KB3035583 but that made no difference.

Re: I finally decided to bite the bullet...
Running the compatibility check didn't help, but that wasn't too surprising as it is set to run once a day anyway - so I set the clock forward a month and ran it again and that worked!
Sadly it now claims that the brand new NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 is not compatible with Windows 10, even though NVIDIA has a Windows 10 driver for this card on their web site. Bother. I'm not sure what to try next. Is there any way to force an update to Windows 10 even though it says the graphics card isn't compatible?

A search for: force windows 10 update with incompatible graphics card reveals a few hits. These two below seem to have positive results (but of course, I cannot vouch for its validity!!)
- Force Windows 10 install with incompatible graphics card.
- Guide: How to force Windows 10 Update even if "incompatible"

Thanks Rudi, I think that might be the same download and install Windows 10 and update the graphics driver afterwards approach that I am now half way through.

I thought the registry hack in the second link looked promising and quick...
Good luck!

Re: I finally decided to bite the bullet...
I just found the link on the Microsoft web site where you could initiate the download (Link above). I had to confirm twice that I wanted it to upgrade even though it had a non compatible graphics card. The upgrade is currently 13% complete.
The new graphics card does appear on the list Which NVIDIA GPUs are supported in Windows 10? so I really don't know how I could have selected something that wouldn't have this issue!
