You should be able to set up notifications in your device/printer setup.
Below is from my Windows 7 'Devices and Printers' screen: Personally, I keep it turned off, as I find the constant notification of successful print jobs a touch annoying!

Re: Notify me when a printed doc errors
Hi, thats a good facility I didnt know abot (did my MCSA in 2k3! must get MCITP sorted for 2008)
I added the relevant server from a 2008 box i have on my network, and setup the custom filter to trap errors in the print queue.
So i cant get the native email notification working for some reason, but I have set up a blat script that gets called and that works great... as long as I am logged in on the print management server.
Once i log off these notifications dont come, until i log in again :(
actually, when i log in again the added print server and fileter etc has all dissapeared!
so not the perfect solution i was hoping for.

Re: Notify me when a printed doc errors
Ok, there must have been a conflict with the snap in . When i log in the filter and srever remain now, but the alerts only fire when i log in.
The server the printes i want to watch are on is server 2003. this has a permanent logged in status, so if i coudl get the print management console on that it would be fine.
