daffodils in the wild
If you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods at this time of year then a must do walk is this one:

Oh, and the bacon butties at the Daffy Caffy are not to be missed either.
Mind you today's unseasonably hot weather (18.5degC ) meant that today we did pass on the bacon butties and had an ice cream instead.

Re: daffodils in the wild
There are huge numbers of daffodils growing wild near Kempley and Dymock, in the Forest of Dean (west/north-west of Gloucester)...

This shot doesn't do the view justice. A carpet of daffodils as far as you can see.

Re: daffodils in the wild
You will probably be disappointed. Part of one of the twin beds of 100 daffodil bulbs that runs the length of the driveway can be seen in the top-right corner of this image.
The base of my four-foot diameter rockery with 300 crocus bulbs can be seen at the top.
In the foreground are tips of onion leaves (for garnish) sprouting from four onions in cut-off water bottles on my North-facing kitchen window ledge and then ...
Russell is helping out by removing gobs of chicken fat from my grilling pan efforts to grill a small plastic sack of chicken thighs(1) a few days ago.
Russell is the newest member of my family of four crows who check out my buffet daily for failed loaves of bread, hard-to-remove baked food etc.
This year I have attracted a family of FIVE Blue Jays!
My gardening diary tells me "April 13 2021: The pale purple crocuses are blooming", so I have at least two more weeks before I will see a leaf. But there again it might be later, since my crocii are deep purple.
The daffodils should appear about a month later, say mid-May.
(1) Don't be silly! Of course I remembered to remove the plastic!

Re: daffodils in the wild
Ken, are daffodils a native plant in England? I have never known them in the wild in the US. Even those seen in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on back country hikes are there because there once was a mountain dwelling on the site.

Stuart, your garden is quite lovely indeed. One that Manet or even Van Gogh might have envied and wished to paint.

It's a lovely garden Stuart, especially at this time of year. From the Antipodean point of view, it looks very English.

Thank you for all the nice comments on my garden. Here is a picture of a cosy fox slumbering in the corner under the apple tree - taken a couple of days ago...

Re: daffodils in the wild
A lovely garden indeed. We used to see foxes on most night shifts when working in London on the railway. Now we see them in the substation compounds during the day quite regularilly. At Southwark substation off Southwark street there's one that lives in the substation under the HV switchgear!

Lodon's urban foxes are very cute, except when they make very loud noises while mating at night

Re: daffodils in the wild
That's a superb retreat you have Stuart.
Foxes are not regarded will Down Under. As an introduced species, they have no predators, and have been extremely successful. They are a huge threat to native wildlife, probably only second to feral (and domestic) cats in the damage they cause to native species.
