Improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D vanished and Snipping Tool and Paint reverted back to previous/ current.
Hi
For a few weeks I have been installing some software and checking through a few things on a fairly new Windows 10 computer for a friend.
I needed to do a lot of screenshots, and I was very pleased to find that it had some improved/ extended version of the long running Windows Snipping Tool, ( and Paint. )
It appears that it is (was) a standard supplied version with Windows 10 from/ at about 2018
Here is an article that discusses its introduction : how to seamlessly pass an image from the windows 10 snipping tool to paint 3d )
Snipping tool looked like this, https://i.postimg.cc/PfzBN2Y1/Snip-To-Paint.jpg , having an extra button which placed the screenshot very conveniently middle in a version of Paint, https://i.postimg.cc/x8R771n6/Snip-In-Paint.jpg I have a few windows 10 machines just now, some mine, some I am doing some stuff on for others. They are of different ages and versions but no others have this improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D.
I was hoping I might somehow be able to put it on all my windows 10 machines or even also on all my computers.
I was using the improved version of Snipping Tool and Paint 3D constantly and it was consistently working on that one machine that had it for about a month. I found it really good. I was hoping later to investigate if I could find some way to get this on other computers. In this time the computer had been restarted many times and occasionally I was told updaters were about to be done , or were done.
But then it vanished a few days ago. Snipping Tool has reverted back to the more normal version and paint also has changed.
I know that I was still using the improved version at least a week after any shown updates in any list anywhere that I can find on the computer. And I am not offered the option to go back to the previous version of windows 10, which I have often heard said that is usually available for 10 days after any major upload. So I assume I have had no major update, at least none that it is telling me about. As far as I can tell I am not offered any re setting option other than a new install, although I am not too well clued up on navigating around these various re setting possibilities
So, the question(s)
_ Can anyone shed any light on what may have happened,
or
_ has any suggestion on how I might be able to get it back?
My Laymen guess is that by luck, or by some glitch, this improved version was still on this one machine, but then recently, some routine secret Policing by Microsoft noticed it and tanked it, - As I have only ever seen this improved version once, and because Microsoft are keen to promote their “Snip and Sketch” , so I expect they have the policy of wanting to remove any remaining versions of this nice useful version that they find still on any computers?
But possibly there is some more innocent explanation?
Thanks,
Alan
(P.S. The computer in question has version
21H1 (Build 19043.1348)
As far as I can tell this version has been on the computer for many months since its showing having had various updates related to this version since June this year.
This computer has never been fiddled with in anyway using any third party software. The owner had it from new and has even less knowledge of computing than me and has never made any attempt to change or control what Microsoft want to do with the computer, ( or us).
So it’s a completely standard machine bought from new from a reputable dealer, and used normally. )
