Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
Am I the only member of Eileen's Lounge whose brain is wasting my life away by trying to keep track of what is going in with Nina Conti's Psycho Therapy sessions?
And before you respond, I would like to point out that when I write " Nina Conti's Psycho Therapy sessions" I mean " Nina Conti's Psycho Therapy sessions", not " Nina Conti's Psycho-therapy sessions".
Cheers
Chris

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
Might I suggest "Nina Conti In Therapy", "Nina and Monkey's Bedtime", and if you are not too squeamish "Nina Conti and Monkey visit the Gynaecologist"
If you have in mind to test the water before jumping in, for novices I recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbd0FcnFfO0&t=2s - 3,584,839 views, of which at least a dozen are mine.
Cheers

That's OK, Stuart, in which case I urge you NOT to watch the Nina Conti videos; yours, unlike mine, is too precious a mind to corrupt.
Best Wishes

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
Nina Conti played the part of an au pair in a long-running Radio 4 comedy series called Clare in the Community. "Clare is a social worker who likes to sort out other people's problems while ignoring her own. She is white, middle class and heterosexual, but does not like to be reminded of it."
The au pair came from an unspecified eastern European country, and had a stock sentence spoken in appropriately foreign-accented English, "In my home village they used to say..." followed by some piece of tortured and obscure wisdom.
I found Ms Conti rather funny.
What Chris is (currently) on about, I cannot guess, nor do I wish to.
I find him rather funny, also...!

Ih Great, Just Great!
Thanks a lot, John.
After another sleepless night (55,484 or whatever) and 6 hours for 3000 (England's cricketers should wish) I am now committed(1) to 73 podcast episodes at what look like 30 minutes each, so 36 more hours down the tubes.
This keeps up I'll have no time left to post stuff on Eileen's lounge.
Oh. I see.
Cheers
Chris

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
Tom Conti takes a sinister part in her series where she has to wear Monkey 24/7 for six weeks or else immolate him (i.e. her)

This place is a constant education. I knew of Tom Conti but not his daughter. I knew of Clare in the Community but not the connection to Tom Conti via his daughter.
Fascinating stuff

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
I doubt that he gets as ticked off by being referred to as "Nina Conti's father" as my dad was when first he met my headmaster, Norman McLeod, and was greeted with "Oh! You're Christopher's father".
My mum told me later that it quite took my dad down a peg. Or two.

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
I agree. I checked out Tom Conti's Wikipedia page and found that he was in the movie Saving Grace. I could not recall his face amongst the characters, so searched a bit deeper and found:-
my Saving Grace at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saving_Grace_(2000_film)
and the other Saving Grace at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saving_Grace_(1986_film)
This place IS a constant education. That is surely its saving grace.

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
John, I confess that I did not read your post correctly the first time around. I have just finished listening to the leading 29 episodes, having fallen in love with Megan, not so much Clare, and wandered onto the Wikipedia page to find out who was playing sweet little Megan, and so discovered that Megan is played by Nina. As is, simultaneously, Narli (not so seductively attractive, but lovable for her pragmatic approach to life ("If you want to see your cat again, clean up your garbage!")0.
And all this time I have been listening to Clare and wondering how, at times, she manages to sound so unlike Nina!

Re: Wasting my life away with Nina Conti
Clare is played by Sally Phillips, with the correct amount of "we know better than you do" attitude so beloved of the stereotypical officious social worker. Her character is not inherently an attractive personality.
Both Nali [sic] Jakovlivicz and Megan are played by Nina Conti, as you say, and completely differently!
I'm glad you are amused by the serieses.

There is a (to me) stranger mental twist to my experience. Please indulge me !
I came to the series "Clare" already madly in love with Nina by watching the YouTube videos of Nina and Monkey.
So from Episode 1 of Clare I just assumed that my heroine and the series heroine were one and the same.
Sally's accent (as it turned out) satisfied me that Clare was Nina.
So I listened to 29 episodes with a view of Nina in my mind every time that Clare spoke. "Clare is Nina" and Nina is Clare.
During that period I fell in love too with Wee Megan and her lilting upturn of tone at the end of each sentence which, I imagined, matched the upturn of the tip of her wee little nosey.
As well I thought that the Slavic au pair was extremely well-voiced.
Of course I recognized that the script writers were behind the dialogue and twists of logic that so amused my mind.
But still I thought, if I don't ever get to meet Clare, second best would be Megan, and third-best (for me) would be Nali.
Hence my current state of awe when I went to the Wiki page and (unmasked!) found that Nina's brilliance had been shining out at me through characters that i thought were not her.
I think I need to spend more time in the garden (grin!)
Cheers
Chris
