The Definitive 11Foot8 Bridge Crash Compilation
There seems to be a rip here about once each month.
I root for the Penskes, because they match the beam colour.
Cheers

I guess that in USA flashing amber lights mean 'go for it' ??ChrisGreaves wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 20:07The Definitive 11Foot8 Bridge Crash Compilation

No, aekyall .
Not quite.
It means that despite their protestations over Metric, they haven't quite grasped the reality of Imperial yet.

Re: No, I don't think so
I find it strangely comforting that the two lorry drivers in the original picture are having a nice chat about the incident! Life must carry on; other motorists must be blocked...

Even more comforting to know that the conversation began:-
"You think that this bridge is low, you should check out the one on McCluskey Street in ..."

The 11' 8" bridge got raised by 8" at the end of October 2019, which has reduced the number of roof-removal incidents - but these 'issues' still happen!

Yes, I read that. But apparently it was raised to alleviate the rail-bed gradient, NOT to allow more inexperienced truck drivers to raise our insurance rates.John Gray wrote: ↑01 Apr 2021, 11:26The 11' 8" bridge got raised by 8" at the end of October 2019, which has reduced the number of roof-removal incidents - but these 'issues' still happen!
I wish someone would post statistics on the proportion of rental trucks (as in U-Haul etc) versus professionals (as in Tippet-Richardson)

Re: No, I don't think so
I would suspect that no rational motor insurance company is going to cover a driver who has ignored warning signs and ripped the roof off the trailer!

I agree, John, but a tarpaulin would help ...
I love the way the "sardine can" analogy leaves the roof coiled around the beam.

Re: No, I don't think so
Umm . . . I doubt the photo was taken in the US. There are several clues. The warning sign posted on the railway bridge shows metric first. In nearly 80 years, I've never encountered a such a sign in the US. It's possible, I suppose; but I've never seen one. Next, the semi trailer has 3 rear axles. I've never encountered such here. Maybe, but I don't think so. Next, the vehicles are driving on the wrong side of the road for the US or Canada. Note that the approaching driver is seated on the vehicle's right side which is never the case in the US or Canada for such a rig.
Conclusion: This occurred somewhere in the UK; therefore it is British drivers who ignored an amber light if there was one.

Re: No, I don't think so
B&Q are a major DIY chain here in the UK, the number plate on the lorry that's stopped for a chat looks like a UK plate, the height warning is UK style. It's a safe bet this happened somewhere in the UK.
The amber light that Keith referred to can be seen at just before the two min mark in the YouTube video that Chris gave in the second post in this thread. The clips in that video are from the US:

Thanks Ken for posting the link and shedding another twenty non-productive minutes from my day.stuck wrote: ↑01 Apr 2021, 18:42The clips in that video are from the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_S ... t_Overpass
I get the most fun now of watching pedestrian reactions, usually glued to their phone, but jumping because the roof-crash probably sounds like a gun-shot.
And in typing this I realise that there are NO bridges in Bonavista. Life here is pretty quiet.
