Think I could do better with my eyes closed and using one hand.
This must be either a joke or otherwise intentional.
I think they are trying to get tourists back.

If it only had one eye, it'd be a great rendition of a cyclops.

I'd hope The Grauniad has ensured the authenticity of this story and thus the 'restoration' really is that bad. Look closely at the two images though.
In the left hand one, the frieze behind and to the right of the head is NOT the same as that in the right hand image. Also, look at the statues hand. Are they the same hand? Hard to tell, but I don't think so. Strongly suggests these 'before' and 'after' are not of the same statue.

The Daily Mail and the Sun, to name two 100% trustworthy sources, carry the story too.
One of the articles mentions that the original statue fell off and the new one is a replacement...

Re: The Spanish are getting good at this...
Perhaps the incompetent press thoughtlessly neglected to take a "before" photo, so that when the restoration was discovered, they were forced to take a photo of a similar photo on the same building. They were statues on the facade of a building, rather than museum pieces.stuck wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 15:09I'd hope The Grauniad has ensured the authenticity of this story and thus the 'restoration' really is that bad. Old enough to have seen and enjoyed "The Odyssey". They say the series is myth but I think that's a myth.

Slight diversion, but some of these works are brilliant:

That is taking gargoyleing a bit to far.
