The Thames Estuary
The Thames Estuary looking North to Southend from Allhallows.
I took the picture whist taking the dog for a walk and spotted a large bird on the beach. The small white dot near the centre! A heron, I think.
Regards
Graeme

Re: The Thames Estuary
I took two photos of a heron on the River Roding yesterday. One of them was just a quick snap, the other was zoomed in close to show what bird it was...

Perhaps it was a lesser spotted white dot? :)

Re: The Thames Estuary
That zoomed-in picture definitely shows a heron (and ducks)!
Best wishes,

Re: The Thames Estuary
They are impressive birds when they're not pinching the goldfish out of your garden pond! The bird I saw was whiter than your heron. Maybe just a seagull after all then!

Re: The Thames Estuary
If the bird you saw had the characteristic outline of a heron, as in Stuart's close up shot but was white not grey, then perhaps you saw an Egret. They come in two flavours:

Re: The Thames Estuary
But if it was a heron, he'd have no egrets

Frankly, that's an awful song.
Cheers

Here's a picture of a rather tired looking egret on the River Roding that I took a few months ago

Ah, yes, it could have been one of those. I'll zoom in if I see it again!
