How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
Secunia PSI is complaining that I have an end of life version of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.x on my Windows 7 laptop.
When I look in programs and features, the only version I can see installed is Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1, but PSI shows this version.
Any suggestions on how to remove this?
EDITED to add
I have the same issue on one of my Windows 10 computers. So I will move this thread from the Windows 7 forum to the Windows General forum

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
Do you have .NET Framework 3.5 installed? This version includes .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0, and you cannot uninstall .NET 2.0 or .NET 3.0 separately.
If you don't have software that requires .NET Framework 3.5, you can remove it using Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.

The only version I have installed is 4.6.1
I could try removing that and downloading it from Microsoft again

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
As far as I know, .NET 2.0 is not included in .NET 4.6.1.
Perhaps some software that you installed on both computers also installed .NET 2.0 because it needs it...

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
That seems quite possible Hans, but I have no idea how to find the culprit, or how to deinstall .NET 2.0

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
If I were you, I'd simply hide .NET 2.0 in Secunia...

I guess that's the only option, unless I feel brave enough to delete the file that Secunia found and wait to see what software breaks

Why not just rename it?StuartR wrote:...delete the file that Secunia found and wait to see what software breaks

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
That's always good advice. If I have any doubts about needing a file or whole folder, I just rename it and wait for any moans or groans.stuck wrote:Why not just rename it?StuartR wrote:...delete the file that Secunia found and wait to see what software breaks

Most times I prefix the new name with a # sign so it's east to spot.

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
I have moved the two files off the C: drive to a disk that isn't scanned by Secunia. I'll let you know what's broken when I find out.
This was harder than I expected as the files were owned by TrustedInstaller and even administrator couldn't move them. I had to seize ownership to change the permissions!

I just got the same message from Secunia3. I clicked the update link and was taken to https://www.microsoft.com/net/download/framework" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I DLoaded 4.6.2 once it was installed I was told to check for other updates, I got this:-

Bother, that sounded quite hopeful for a while.
Meanwhile I have been using my laptop with no issues since moving those files. I wonder what software I broke!

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
Forgot to mention, the file I installed was dated 2015.
I have a full back-up only a few days old, which I will restore to. Then hide it in Secunia. I also have FileHippo App Manager which never showed the update.

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
Hi StuartR, just finished doing my 'Restore' and that missing update reappeared instantly in Secunia. Have found another option but for now, the update is being ignored.

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
I had the same advice on Secunia to update .net. Looked in my W10 Prog & Features and none were listed as installed
I have moved them in Secunia so they are not reported.

I don't think this is mis-reporting by Secunia. I did find and remove the files it identified and it then stopped reporting this issue.

Re: How to remove Microsoft .NET 2.x
Yes, I also don't think that they are mis-reports but why I can't find them in Programs is strange. No bother to stop the Secunia reporting.
Ah, I have found them here ... Do I simply delete this folder to remove all .Net or are there other folders somewhere?
