...the fact that when you open the door, you'd squish a spider and have it all over your hand...and there is no tap in sight to rinse it off. :yuck:Claude wrote:What seems to be the problem here ?

Re: Giant spider hides in car door handle
I once had a spider in my car. Not that big, but big enough. Unfortunately I was driving when I discovered it.
Fortunately I wasn't driving very fast at the time. I ran into a parked car. I was fine, my car was worth so little anyway that insurance wrote it off. The other car was able to be repaired.
Even non poisonous spiders can be dangerous- though I must admit I didn't find out whether it was a poisonous variety or not.

Apparently they won't bother you if you don't annoy them. So they also serve to keep the human gene pool healthy... who is insane enough to go and annoy something like that? Apparently there are bigger versions of such bird spiders in South America. Behold... the Goliath Bird Spider:

I reckon the one living in my lounge room at the moment is about the size of the car door one. Doesn't take up much room, so what the heck.GeoffW wrote:I once had a spider in my car. Not that big, but big enough.

6 or 8 legs are scarier than four!

Re: Giant spider hides in car door handle
I think I would rather have a spider in my car with me than a snake. About 20 years ago when I lived near Houston, we experienced a deluge from the Gulf that caused widespread flooding. I fellow driving to work in his pickup truck had a large cottonmouth moccasin drop down from under the dashboard onto his legs while he was driving on the freeway at 65+mph. I managed to stop the truck safely but he was bitten once by the snake and had to be taken to the emergency department for anti-venom treatment.

I've heard that far more people get killed by hippos than by all poisonous and toothed creatures in Australia combined.Rudi wrote:6 or 8 legs are scarier than four!

And as for rhinos. If a national park had a rhino, how much would it charge?

Apparently, the most dangerous beast in Australia is the horse, with more human deaths associated with horses than any other creature.Rudi wrote:6 or 8 legs are scarier than four!
