Wow...49 WPM! That's quite a big improvement.
Congrats!
That encourages me to give it another go too...

Yes, I noticed that those US spellings slowed down my typing.steveh wrote:...
In 2 attempts I got the same score 42 WPM but the second attmept should have been higher as they had spelled colour incorrectly as color and I did not!!

Re: How fast can you type...
Just a middling attempt - and I wouldn't want to type at test speed for anything except that test!
Oh well, back to the practice.
Cheers

Nice...
Anything faster than my 34 WPM is excellent IMHO

Nice going Anne. I see you got rescued from the tree in the forest
TIP: If you focus on accuracy your score might increase.

Re: How fast can you type...
Out of curiosity, I took that test again. See results posted to this message. I have to agree that it helps that the test is in the language that I am accustomed to so accuracy seems easier to accomplish. I was never in a job that required fast typing, but I have always enjoyed being able to type. This is a pic of the typewriter that I used in my first (and only) semester of typing class. It was slow going with the manuals. Our current keyboards are so much nicer to use! Yea for progress!

Beat your record with one word...
Of course any challenges are still open indefinitely..., but I think for now, Skitterbug is the winner with Stuart in a VERY close second place:

You are very fast. I lack that manual dexterity, but I certainly do remember the old Royal typewriters. I think we also had some ancient Underwoods, too. Those who took the second course in typing got to use the new whiz-bang electric typewriters. I still have an old IBM Executive typewriter - with individual letter arms, not the Selectric ball - that was used for less than 6 months before being sold as government surplus. We know that because we know the employee it was purchased for and who used it for those 6 months.

Re: How fast can you type...
I took typing in high school and got fussed at because I looked at the keyboard, but my typing speed was quite good. It helped in college, that's for sure. And I learned on an old Army typewriter that my Dad had, before the typing class. You really had to punch the keys! But that was back in the day of triplicate forms.
In June I had a small TIA and my accuracy has gone out the window... sigh. My right hand just doesn't cooperate. I've also noticed changes in strength, too, on my right side. The doc says the more I practice, the better it will get. So I try to type a little every day. It's just one of those things.
Does anyone use the speech recognition typing software? I've tried it, back when it first came out, but I think my accent is too strong (Southern accent, that is). Although on a slightly related note, people who have been born and raised here in the South know immediately that I'm not a born Southerner as soon as I open my mouth, although non-Southerners think I sound as Southern as sweet tea and cornbread. And if I get tired, my near-Boston accent really comes out.

Whoever put this North American English Dialects map and study together must have spend an awful amount of time on it! Maybe Skitterbug did the typing (which would of taken only 10 minutes)...
