Re: a quick panorama...
Beautiful. I'd easily be able to spend the whole afternoon there, taking a book and a mattress and reading and daydreaming...listening to the waterfall and the bubbling brook...

Rudi

Re: a quick panorama...
The source of the River Ouse, which runs through York?

No, it's not the Ouse, it's Thornton Force, above Ingleton. There's a map of the loop we walked here:

Re: a quick panorama...
Moreover, the river Ouse "begins" as a full-blown river only 10 miles north of York; further upstream it's the river Ure...
The Ure begins rather unspectacularly in moorland southeast of Mallerstang.

That looks like a wonderful trail. 8km is a decent length for a great days walking and nice to have the midway refreshments centre. I bet they're a sellout each weekend.stuck wrote:No, it's not the Ouse, it's Thornton Force, above Ingleton. Being a small and geographically/geologically diverse country, we do lots of types of scenery within a comparatively compact area. It's cheaper that way!mishmish3000 wrote:Wow... what scenery!

Re: a quick panorama...
Dunno, we sat on a rock and ate a picnic lunch just off to the right hand end of the panorama but there were an awful lot of people doing the loop. Pleased to say there were still plenty of scones, jam and cream in the cafe back at the start for us to enjoy.Rudi wrote:...I bet they're a sellout each weekend.
John's right. The Yorkshire folk are well known for their thrift.

Re: a quick panorama...
Here's another view, only a short distance further along the trail, above the waterfall.

Re: a quick panorama...
I would have never guessed it was the same venue (or ecosystem). A very different look indeed.
PS: just a comment. In the waterfall image, though you cannot see the sky, it looks sunny and great weather. This image looks much more overcast and "colder".

Re: a quick panorama...
You can see some patches of sunshine on the moorland. It looks like typical Yorkshire Dales weather...

Re: a quick panorama...
The weather was classic Yorkshire Dales / UK summer weather. Lots of cloud that came and went, hiding and revealing blue sky as it did. Thus at the foot of the water fall it was sunny with some blue sky but soon after the cloud thickened up. Later still as we ate our scones it was much clearer again.

added later, an uncropped version, with more detail in the sky so you can see what I mean about the weather I blame the wonky panning on the lie of the land

Wonky does not matter if it can be cropped.
I don't think that is one of your sons on the rocky bank there, so it must be Wally

Oh, sorry... I'll blame it on Ken's wonky panning.
