Hi,
Has anyone used Duplicati before?
I'd like to get some educated comments on cloud backup in general;
-- If you have used Duplicati before, any pro's and con's?
-- Besides Duplicati, any other comparable apps?
-- Is cloud backup something to be considered, is it a viable option?
-- Any particularly good advantages beyond the traditional style backups on disk?
I'm just gathering info for interest sake.

I have never liked the idea of cloud storage, particularly for sensitive data. I'm currently Beta testing the new version of Acronis True Image and they offer free cloud storage but I have not opted for it.
I just don't care for the idea of putting my backups or anything else on some remote location. I'll keep my backups and images right here on my desktop or DVDs, thank you.
Someone will find a way to hack into a cloud just as they have done with corporate servers and even government sites. JMHO.

Re: Duplicati
I haven't used Duplicati either, but the idea behind it is to apply encryption with a 256-bit key before the data are uploaded, so even if they are stolen, they are useless to hackers. Only you can decrypt the data (and the NSA, probably).
Best wishes,
Hans

That's what NSA said before they were exposed by a so called patriot who had access to Top Secret data and asked where the book publisher was located.HansV wrote:I haven't used Duplicati either, but the idea behind it is to apply encryption with a 256-bit key before the data are uploaded, so even if they are stolen, they are useless to hackers.
