How about this one, of a wave crashing through the harbour pier:

The sun had shone earlier in the day, while we were walking up on the moors.

I like these photographs. Did you do any post processing, or was the weather really that bleak? They look like you desaturated them, save for the life saver doughnut in the pier photo. Looks like the North Sea... am I wrong?

Paul

Yep - it looks like the west harbour pier of Whitby, North Yorkshire, on the east coast of England.
Best wishes,

I wondered how long it would take Hans to post a message about the location! though the pedant in me adds that it is better described as the north pier.
I do have the RAW files but these are just the jpgs straight off the camera with no tinkering, except the use of heavy compression to get them down from ~3Mb to <250Kb. The sky was pretty grey, hence the desaturated look but I think the main problem with these pics is that they are a bit underexposed. There is a lot of empty space at the top of the histograms.

The pedant in me adds that it's more west than north:

Re: It wasn't windy yesterday but...
Umm, OK, so the estuary does face more or less due north so by the compass it's the west pier but it being marginally further up the coast makes it the north pier as well. Let's call it a draw and say we are both right!
I wonder what the locals call it?
Ken
edited to add:
It looks like I need to eat humble pie ( )as a local blog talks about the west pier. Hmm, I should know better than to question Hans' answers!

One of my Facebook friends from my hometown on Long Island posted a short video of waves similar to your second picture, Ken. For Long Island Sound, that's a bit unusual, but hurricane Irene did some strange things. Today I'm reading about all the flooding in Connecticut, across the Sound.

Here's a pic taken during the big storm this past weekend. It was taken in Dare County, NC.
