We had a morning of clear sky, now we have rain forecast for a week! So I made the most of it what with the excitement about AR3590!

Probably best to have it round the right way though, here's version 02, rotated, flipped, cropped and sharpened!

I'm being really picky here but it might be a tad over-sharpened. Look at the spots on the left, they seem to have 'halos' on them.

The Sun this morning:
As usual, I'm puzzled ...

Most news images of "sun spots" show a raging surface covered with blemishes.
This image shows an image with one sun-spot, as if the sun was a cool as liquid mercury.

Why do we see only one sun-spot instead of thousands?
And no, I'm not going to ask for my money back ...
Thanks, Chris

It had to be at night, because Graeme is generally up all night with his camera. He doesn't have the time to be up all day as well.

Nah! Graeme is about as close to a professional as you can get (assuming of course that you want to be that close to a professional).
He must have stacks of those black cloths he can drape over his head.
You're welcome!
Cheers, Chris

Yes, I might have over done the sharpening a bit! I might have got a bit over excited when the big sun spot became more clear!

You need a different, more expensive, type of solar filter to show the Sun's prominences and surface detail. But I only have a white light solar filter so I just get cool as liquid mercury! There in fact 12 sunspots showing. The Sun is coming up to Solar Maximum so multiple sun spots are common now.

Thanks Graeme
I went searching for images of sun-spots and when I found them realized that I was confusing sun-spots with the sun's surface shoeing structures which Steve Mould descibes in this video.
Mea Culpa.

Interesting video.
Sad, but true.

Down our way Steve gets the blame for unmade beds, unwashed dishes, tangled contents in the shed, and delays in replying to emails ...
Cheers, Chris
