it started well enough
Unfortunately soon after I took this picture we took a wrong turn and ended up in a very squelchy field and with no way to cross the stream to get on to the path we should have been on. We had to retrace our steps, i.e. back through the mud. It then started to drizzle that progressed to rain.
The shower back home may also have been wet but at least it was toasty warm wet.

Love the layers; blue, white, olive and lime...and then mud.

Re: it started well enough
It was my own fault. I'd printed a map and we followed the highlighted route correctly, except I'd incorrectly highlighted that bit of route

Not so sure about the glorious bit but the mud on the outside of the boots has dried of overnight so now that I've brushed that off they can sit in the airing cupboard for a few days to thoroughly dry out on the inside as well.StuartR wrote:Mud, mud, glorious mud

Re: it started well enough
1) I don't have a smart Phone, 2) there was no signal (stuckling2 tried). Plus the hard copy map I had was a printout of an OS map. The problem was I'd highlighted a hedge instead of the actual footpath. Result, we turned right too soon and ended up stuck in the mudStuartR wrote:Have you considered using maps on your phone...
see what I did there?

Just to clarify one thing. Both products that I mentioned allow you to download the maps for an area so you can use them offline. I have the entire UK in 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 on a 64GB SD card.

Crikey ... what a fit lot you are. All this trudging around the countryside.

Aren't people in Norway very fond of trudging around the countryside? After all, they have "allemannsretten"...
Best wishes,

Re: it started well enough
Hmm, but I am not Norwegian.
I tried the trudging around but after so many falls skiing and legging it around I have retired during the loooong winter months. Even my 'garden boots I pull on to check mail box etc are fitted with' mountaineering spikes'.
They say there is no bad weather in Norway only bad clothing. What a lot of hogwash.
Apologies Ken, I'll shut up now.

Last time I went to Norway my friends took me cross-country skiing. I fell over in the snow a lot. Their small children laughed at me!

I'd realised that but this was a case of People Doing Stupid ThingsTM, where People = Me. Why would I ever look at a map on a phone when I had an OS map in my hand? One that I'd so carefully annotated so that we wouldn't take a wrong turn?StuartR wrote:...use them offline...

True but when I retire I'll ask an Admin to change my username and I'll update my avatar to something less headache inducing.HansV wrote:And what's worse, he is still stuck...
