Biggest storm in 30y to quench worst drought in 100y

Post by Rudi »

Its all happening in CPT. We are currently in the worst drought in 100 years (apparently since 1904) and now we are facing the worst storm in 30 years. Headlines in local papers and web pages are reading Monster Storm, Hell of a storm, Mother of all storms, etc... so I'm bracing for a BIG one! If I'm not online for a while you'll know that its probably knocked out my wifi as the wifi towers up on the hill are infamous for being damaged in high winds. I can hear the wind picking up already as I type this. Hold thumbs for me!

Cape Town braces for worst storm in 30 years

Stay safe and secure, Rudi. Hope you are on the lee side of the storm. If you have a boat, pull it out. If too big, double up the mooring lines and get in your home safety area. :megashout:

Hide under that caterpillar!

Seriously, prayers go with you and yours for safe passage through the storm. I also hope and pray that your drought will be broken. We went through a prolonged one here that was the worst since the 1930s but have since refilled our reservoirs and see aquifers on the rise.

Let us hear from you as soon as you can.

Be safe Rudi! As a hurricane survivor I know how frightening the approaching storms can be. Prayers they only provide the rain you need then move on.

Some lovely words of encouragement and support.
TX all.

Update: This is a nasty one, at least from comparisons with previous cold fronts/storms. I was kept awake most of the night with strange squealing whistling noises, heavy rain and wind gusts that sounded like it wanted my roof. The route into work this morning was a dodge of broken branches and flooding rivers on the road. All in all, I'm safe as can be and in high hopes even though it rages on throughout today.

Who are those yo-yo's out driving through the surge? Then they will complain when their vehicle gets washed away.

(that wasn't you was it, Rudi?)

Wow!!!

I love a good 'blow!' I've been known to walk about in them in my younger days. Now I watch from the porch (covered lanai). There is something about a strong rainstorm with wind and even lightning and thunder that invigorates me and awes me simultaneously. I don't think I'd walk or drive near that promenade, though. All that salt water must be wreaking havoc on those autos.

My world clock tells me that you are well into the evening hours in CPT while it is mid-afternoon here. Has the storm abated any? How much rainfall have you had? Has it been widely distributed enough to help all suffering from the drought?

Stay safe!!
